Jigsaw Classroom
Description
The jigsaw classroom is an empirically tested cooperative learning technique developed by Elliot Aronson and his students. From as early as 1971, the method has been used in thousands of classrooms have used the jigsaw classroom with documented results on reducing racial conflict, enhancing liking for school, enhancing test performance and reducing absenteeism. The desired outcome of what is to be learned is divided into as many elements as there are participants in the team/training group/class. Just as in a jigsaw, the full result can only be achieved when everyone works together and contributes. The message brought across through this method is that if each student's contribution is essential, then each student is also essential. And it is exactly this message that makes the jigsaw technique so effective.
